State of the Arts events are delivered and facilitated by professional actors, artists, production managers and video producers who are trained to offer young people a safe environment to explore real life situations, discuss any issues and talk about alternative life choices. At the same time developing their employability skills and enhancing their personal development.

Can we help you make the difference and offer opportunities for a young person to re-write their own 'script’, take the lead in their ‘movie’ or orchestrate possibilities for an alternative future?

Why Use The Arts as a Personal and Professional Development Tool for Young People?

The arts have no barriers - all the arts cut right across racial, cultural, social economic, educational and personal barriers. Young people share a common ground and a common aim.

The arts bring out what's inside - providing opportunities for self-expression, bringing the potential inside, out.

The arts have a start, middle and end - using the arts make it possible to experience processes from beginning to end (while meeting deadlines, working to guidelines, meeting short term and long term goals.)

The arts are solo and team based - they develop, encourage and nuture both independence and team working (crucial to the workplace, further learning and self goals)

The arts have no time frame - the process (whatever the art medium) requires immediate feedback, amendment, change and provides opportunities for reflection.

The arts develop higher order thinking skills - including analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and "problem-finding."

The arts improve academic achievement - enhancing test scores, attitudes, social skills, critical and creative thinking.

The arts are person centred - they make it possible to use personal strengths in meaningful ways

The arts encourage and facilitate great learning for all.

How Can You Use State of the Art?

If you are reading this page, we will assume that you already know and are aware of the impact that using the arts can have on a young persons personal and professional development.

State of the Art means 'the highlest level of development'

And our programmes are no different.

The focus is on the young persons personal and professional development, the arts is the medium used how to achive this.

State of The Arts can be delivered over a week or for longer events or a demand led programme that can include some of our other courses please contact us to discuss.

How Do They Work?

Young people decide on day one what they want to achieve, for example this could be:

  • Producing a Documentary
  • The Making of a Short Film
  • Creating an Advertorial Piece
  • Writing and Performing a Piece of Drama
  • Music Production and Video Making
  • or a mix of all of the above

Then they get to work: creating, planning, storyboarding, rehearsing, creating scenery or props, writing materials, supporting, directing, filming, editing, choreographing, acting, dancing, publicity, enterprise, budgets, marketing, collaborating, selling...

At the same time learning key and soft skills that can be transfered into the workplace, further learning and to their personal life including:

  • Working as a part of a team (with a common purpose, goals and aims)
  • Making decisions (for themselves and for others)
  • Delegation (asking for help, support and feedback, knowing when to pass on a task for the greater benefit of the group)
  • How to research effectively (finding out answers)
  • Public Speaking (being able to communicate effectively with their peers, outside parties and people from different backgrounds)
  • Managing time and organising self and others
  • Writing reports, materials, keeping records and data (literacy and numeracy)
  • Handling setbacks and 'problems' and being able to fix them efficiently
  • Building confidence, communication and their ability to use their interpersonal skills.
  • Develop an deeper awareness of self and others
  • Participating in 'common' workplace place activities: meetings, feedback, support sessions, voicing opinions and taking on board others suggestions.
  • Learning how to manage change
  • Work to guidelines, health and safety and outcomes
  • Producing an end result, for which they have full accountability, ownership and contol over.

We can also deliver shorter State of the Art workshops and can also help organisations plan and create events for young people that use the arts to build confidence and self esteem, develop employability skills and career planning.

"A report reveals that schools who produce the highest academic achievement are spending 20 to 30% of the day on the arts."Charles Fowler DMA
